HISTORY TRIVIA

DID YOU KNOW????  The Foundation launched Group Study Exchange in 1965. Since then more than 70,000 people have traveled the globe as part of the program.

At the 1917 International Convention an endowment was set up "for the purpose of doing good in the world". In 1928 the endowment was renamed The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation started the Group Study Exchange in 1965. Since then 70,000+ people have traveled the world with this program.m

1991-1995 the club held a fundraising breakfast for the community. This was to help build up our scholarship fund.
1991 was the first year we signed up for the "Adopt Highway Litter Clean up Program"

Rotary held a fundraiser breakfast for the community for 5 years 1991-1995 to raise money for scholarships.

The first Bellevue sign on the north side of town was put in place in 1990 at a cost of $2,358. The second sign on the south side of town was put in a year later and the third sign to the west in 1993. The last sign had an additional cost of $2,254 because of equipment and labor to put the sign in place. The Rotary club paid for each of the signs but the city is paying the light bill to light each sign. The Rotary club continues to maintain the landscaping around each sign.

1988 the first high school scholarships were given. They were for $500 each.

History: 1975 --- Our first exchange student was a Bellevue student that went to Australia. It was Gerald Jackson and he became a member of Rotary and is a past District Rotary Governor in Michigan. 7 Bellevue students became exchange students over the years.

Bellevue Civil War Cemetery Reconstruction
Our Club carefully restored a 2500 square foot area between June and September. We straightened 22 headstones by pouring new footings and repaired several broken headstones by cementing them back together. Finally, we straightened 2 large monuments that were leaning badly and groomed then re-seeded the area.

*** Our club plans to double the area to restore a 100 X 100 square foot section next summer.
